3.  Furosemide is a "water pill" (diuretic) that increases the amount of urine you make, which causes your body to get rid of excess water. This drug is used to treat high blood pressure. Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. This medication also reduces swelling/fluid retention (edema) which can result from conditions such as congestive heart failureliver disease, or kidney disease. This can help to improve symptoms such as trouble breathing.

Why is furosemide prescribed?

  • Furosemide, a diuretic or “water pill,” causes the kidneys to eliminate unneeded water    and salt from the body into the urine.
  • Phentermine as well as dieting may cause you to retain water.
  • Furosemide also is used to treat high blood pressure, and the swelling and water    retention caused by various medical problems, including heart disease.

When taking furosemide, be sure to increase your potassium intake.  Your potassium levels may drop as a result of taking furosemide.  Potassium is an essential electrolyte that is important for muscle function, your heart, kidneys, and nervous system. If you have a potassium deficiency you may notice yourself getting abnormally weak, confused, tired, and experience a lack of coordination. Potasium deficiency can even cause heart irregularities.

People who exercise regularly need more potassium intake than those who don’t. This is simply because among other things, sweat contains the potassium electrolytes. Most people know that it is very important to stay hydrated when exercising, but keep in mind that it’s also worth keeping up your electrolyte levels.

Here are a few ideas of healthy meals with high potassium that are easy to incorporate into your everyday life:

  • For breakfast- Make yourself a nice banana smoothie with milk. You could also add blackberries, peaches, and strawberries- all are fruits with high potassium content, and they are great in smoothies.

  • For lunch- Enjoy a fresh spinach salad with tomatoes, turkey, bell peppers, and fresh mushrooms. The key is to keep away from the pre-made stuff. Keep to fresh ingredients whenever possible.

  • For dinner- You could make a nice roasted chicken and serve it with lima beans and green beans.

  • For dessert- Throw together a fruit salad with grapes, blueberries, apples, oranges, and raspberries.

  • For a snack: Keep a banana in your desk at work for a super charged potassium snack (400 mg) with low calories (80 per banana).

2. Chromium Picolinate has been praised as a breakthrough in glucose and fat metabolism, weight loss and management of high blood pressure and cholesterol. When chromium, a basic nutrient, is combined with picolinic acid, chromium picolinate is created. Chromium picolinate reduces sugar and carbohydrate cravings. It also suppresses the appetite, which is how it can help lead to weight loss.  In addition to small amounts in multivitamins, chromium picolinate is claimed to be helpful for a variety of purposes, such as to:

  • Lower blood sugar in people with type 2 diabetes

  • Increase blood sugar in people with hypoglycemia

  • Aid in weight loss

  • Help in athletic training (such as for body building)

  • Treat polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS)

  • Help with depression or other mood disorders.

    Chromium is a naturally-occurring
mineral, trace amounts of which are found in everyday foods like meat, poultry, fish, and whole-grain breads. FDA recommends a daily chromium intake of approximately 130 mcg, as infinitesimal amounts of chromium are needed to aid the transport of blood glucose across cell membranes Combining chromium with picolinic acid simply aids in efficient chromium absorption, and it is this combined form that is popular on the diet market today.

Some benefits of chromium picolinate include its ability to keep the body
metabolismhealthy. The most common usage for chromium picolinate is as a weight loss aid; claims that this supplement can melt fat, drastically reduce appetite, and increase metabolism. Chromium picolinate weight loss is also achieved by the ability of chromium picolinate to reduce sweet cravings and hunger pangs. Improved carbohydrate and fat metabolism is a major function of chromium picolinate, which can help with proper weight management and chromium picolinate weight loss. Another benefit is that chromium picolinate can also decrease high blood pressure and cholesterol while chromium picolinate aids in promoting healthy growth hormone functions. Anyone who wants to increase their general health and
fitness levels while maintaining a healthy body weight through chromium picolinate weight loss, should include chromium picolinate in their diet.

1.  Phentermine has been available as a safe prescription weight loss drug for more than 40 years. Phentermine is used as an appetite suppressant. The drug accounts for about half of all weight-loss prescriptions, in part because it’s significantly cheaper than the other major FDA approved diet drugs, such as Xenical.   Insurance companies typically don’t cover diet drugs.  In order to avoid tolerance issues, it is recommended not to take the medication for more than 20 weeks straight.  A short break of 7-10 days is the recommended "wash-out" period for the medication so it can be continuously effective.  Many bariatricians use it on and off with their patients for as long as several years.

Phentermine acts as an appetite suppressant.  Hunger cravings are lessened when the active chemical affects the parts of central nervous system so calorie intake should lower.  It also increases the energy levels of patients taking this drug to assist in burning more calories.  It is recommended that this drug is taken accompanied by a healthy diet and regular exercise.

Phentermine should be used as a short term drug to help patients to start losing weight while the patient is undergoing permanent long term changes in their attitude towards food and exercise. Taking Phentermine is not a substitute for proper diet.  For maximum effect, Phentermine must be used in conjunction with a diet and exercise program.

It is important to remember the use of Phentermine alone cannot treat obesity.  Phentermine should be combined with a healthy lifestyle including physical activity and improved diet to lose and maintain weight successfully over the long term.  For short term use, Phentermine has been widely successful in achieving weight loss and reducing the risks of medical problems associated with obesity.
Diet Medications
One of the biggest problems a dieter faces when trying to lose weight is overeating. There are many reasons why people do this. Some are emotional eaters. This means they eat to soothe feelings that they do not know how to handle otherwise. There are others that overeat because they have insulin problems that cause huge surges and drops in blood sugar. When these drops occur, the body tells itself that more glucose is needed so more food needs to be ingested. The answer to how does Phentermine work lies in the quest to figure out how to stop such people from eating too much food and gaining more weight.

How does Phentermine work? It goes straight to the source of the problem within the brain that regulates hunger and what the body does when it thinks that it needs more food. This drug goes to the hypothalamus part of the brain to tell it to stop sending out hunger signals. Essentially, it releases nor-epinephrine, a neurotransmitter that will tell the brain food is not needed by triggering what is known as the 'flight or fight' response. Many times, those who are obese are getting hunger signals for reasons other than a real need for food. This allows a dieter to have more control over what they eat and it may also encourage them to more forward with other aspects of weight loss like exercise and better food choices over all.

How Phentermine works can also be answered by explaining that this drug triggers the release of small amounts of adrenaline and epinephrine in the brain. When this happens, the body can begin to breakdown stored fat reserves and may trigger small surges in metabolism. Those things can help, but are not the reason that people rely on Phentermine when they want help controlling hunger so they can lose weight.
